Christensen Machine, Inc. (CMI) located in the Centennial Industrial Park north of Heyburn announces that they are
the first Mini-Cassia small business to apply for and be HUBZone certified. Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Zone is a
federally supported classification for government procurement. The program is administered by the Small Business Administration (SBA). The program provides smaller companies located in rural communities an equitable
opportunity to bid on government contracts.Robert Christensen, VP of Marketing and Sales explains, "CMI
pursued the HUBZone certification to open new markets for our expanding operations. A more level playing field will allow us to competitively submit quotes for metal fabrication and precision machining work sought but federal government agencies." Mike Christensen, VP of Operations highlights the programs importance by stating, "Through our participation on the Idaho Business Network (IBN) we have received bids for projects that are HUBZone 'set asides', with our certification we will now be able to pursue these business opportunities. For example, we were not able to bid on precision machine work for the Army Corps of Engineers because the large-scale machine job was set aside for HUBZone companies."
CMI
began pursuing the certification earlier this fall after a presentation by Natalie Packer from the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) and information from the Idaho Department of Commerce.
CMI
would like to express appreciation to Senator Mike Crapo's office for assisting with the application process. Without the dedication of several staff members the certification would have been almost impossible achieve.
